FROM TEMPORARY TO FINAL DENTURES

The Immediate Denture Combo

With our Immediate Denture Combo, patients receive a Temporary Healing Denture immediately after extractions, a Soft Liner after four weeks, and a new Final Denture after the healing process is complete.

WHAT DOES THE PROCESS LOOK LIKE?

Anytime we deliver dentures or partials in the same day, we consider those dentures or partials to be a temporary or healing set of dentures. Over the course of the next week or two your gum tissues are going to heal over the extraction sites. After your tissues heal over, the bone under your gums will begin to fill into the spaces where your extracted tooth previously resided. This is a slow process that can take up to 6 months to complete. As the bone fills in, the gum tissue architecture will continuously change and shrink away from the denture. As the tissues shrink, your denture will become “looser.” In order to provide you with the most comfortable secure fit, four weeks after your extractions a soft liner is placed on the inside of the denture to take up any “slack” where your tissues may have shrunk. An additional four-five months is required before the changing of the gums is complete. At this time, a new and final set of dentures is needed to fit the new shape of your upper and/or lower ridges.

HOW LONG WILL MY DENTURES LAST?

The boney ridges and the shape of your mouth will continue to change after the healing process, albeit at a drastically slower rate. For this reason, for the best fitting denture we recommend a reline or new set of dentures every five years so no damaged is caused to your gums by an ill-fitting denture. We encourage you to continue to visit your general dentist for routine check-ups and to regularly assess your oral health.
